2003 Governor Locke Leads Mission to China

Gov. Locke Leads International Trade Mission to China

October 2003

Beth Willis from the World Trade Center Tacoma traveled with the Governor on this mission.

As a trustee of Pierce College Beth had the opportunity to participate in the Governor's high profile trade mission to network with Shanghai Community International Schools, the Education Commission of Shaghai Municipal People's Government and Research International. These contacts provided excellent opportunities for the trustee to advance the international goals of Pierce College. In addition she acted as an ambassador for World Trade Center Tacoma members that were unable to attend the mission. She made valuable contacts for Pacific State Exporters looking for importers of chicken and Monroe Diamond International seeking importers of cattle. In addition she carried to the Chinese gifts of chocolate & nuts supplied by Ames International in Fife. One of her tasks was to give samples to the Chinese of a new candy salmon jerky product created by World Trade Center Tacoma member Frontier Custom Foods Inc.

Nothing fishy about Pacific man's sweet salmon candy "I wonder if Gov. Gary Locke - now in China with a 70-member delegation to foster trading opportunities for Washington products - knew his mission would involve pushing a new salmon candy.")
